Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)


What is the cost to enter?

For the 2025 season, the entry fee will be $2400.00 for U13 and $2475 for U15.


What is covered in the entry fee?

PTW entry fees include entries into 3 PTWs (6 games in each weekend) plus your Provincial Championship entry fee. It does not include any gate fees the host may charge.


What is the entry deadline?

Entry deadline is March 15, 2025.


What is the roster deadline?

Roster deadline is April 15, 2025.


How many teams will advance to Provincial Championships after completion of the PTWs?

Teams ranked 1 to 10 after the 3 PTWs will qualify for the A provincials, teams ranked 11 to 20 after the 3 PTWs will qualify for the B provincials. Teams ranking 21 or lower will be eliminated from Provincial play. Softball Alberta has the right to adjust the tiering as required.


Do teams get their money back if they do not qualify for Provincials?

Teams that do not qualify for Provincial Championships after the PTWs are completed will get their Provincial entry fee back only ($472.50 for U13, $551.25 for U15).


If we host the PTW, do we get a bye into Provincials?

No, hosting a PTW does not grant any byes in either the PTW or the Provincial Championship.


What rules are we playing by?

PTWs will follow Softball Alberta Provincial Championship rules. Some rules have had to be modified to suit the number of teams/games, i.e. time limits on all games in all categories, games can end in ties, etc.


What happens in the case of rainouts or air quality delays?

Make-up games are to be replayed based upon locations. For example, teams who are close in proximity can try to play during the week. Alternatively, an additional weekend may be used (Regional Qualifiers weekend). Softball Alberta has the right to adjust the tiering as required. Softball Alberta will review standings based upon how many games have been completed over the 3-weekend series and adjust as determined.


Does Softball Alberta run the PTWs or do the Hosts?

Softball Alberta would like the PTWs to be an event that we can partner with hosts on to provide great events for our participating teams.

Softball Alberta Responsibilities
- Team entry & roster collection
- Draws
- Umpire game fees & working with PTW Umpire in Chief(s)
- Supervisors to facilitate each PTW (game procedures, coaches meeting)

Host Responsibilities
- Providing facilities (diamonds & maintenance, concession, washrooms)
- Umpire meals
- Liaisons with Softball Alberta


If we are hosting a PTW, can we charge a gate fee?

Yes, the host may charge an individual gate fee collected on site at park entry or a team fee can be charged (a maximum of $200 per team).


Are transfers still needed for the U13/U15 levels?

YES


Can you pick up players if you do not have enough players for a PTW?

Yes, Softball Alberta has developed an Affiliate Player process and form for this situation.


If you have 9 teams moving on to Provincial Championships, but you have 2 teams tied for the last spot, what format will you use?

There will be no tie-breaker games, teams will be ranked based on their standings at the completion of the Tiering Weekends. All ranking criteria will be laid out in the PTW Game Procedures & Rules.
Placements will be final (no appeals).


Will Softball Alberta keep these same weekends for the 2026 season?

To be determined.
